Common injuries you may face in your lower legs after running

Injuries in your lower legs

You may face these types of injuries once in your running timeline if you have spent some time on the track. lower leg injuries mostly consist of muscle tearing or shin splint, and a stress fracture in the worst case, so you may feel uncomfortable due to pain if your body is suffering from any of these injuries during your run. As for myself being a runner, I am suffering from shin splint which is stopping me to achieve my consistent journey of running. though the reason for this injury is my bad decision when I have chosen to take some more work from my body although it has reached its ultimate training limit and still I continued my run and got this injury. So before discussing its treatment, I will discuss the reason behind these type of injuries.

Shin splint

This type of injury happens when you applied so much stress on your lower legs that your muscles surrounding the front bone which is known as the tibia got teared up or strained from its initial form which can cause swelling or developed the pain in that area

  • treatment: It can be treated in a week or two by having proper rest and not applying too much pressure on your lower leg muscles
  • following a proper nutritional diet
  • using ice packs to reduce swelling
  • not doing any kind of exercise until the muscle is treated
  • wearing stretching bands or trying to stretch properly

Stress fracture

The reason for this type of injury is intense stress or pressure on your legs for a very long time which ultimately lead to the development of very light crack usually on your front bone(tibia). You may feel intense pain if your body is suffering from this type of injury. The crack on your bone cannot be detected on an X-ray but still, sometimes doctors recommend to do an X-ray.

  • treatment: The key to recover from this type of injury is also proper rest but the duration of it can be more as compared to that in the shin splint. You may require 4 to 6 weeks to recover yourself fully from this type of injury and yes you can follow the same steps mentioned for shin splint treatment. Sometimes the healing process got delayed and you may require more than a month or two to fully recover. So it is recommended not to perform any work-out activity until you feel that you are fully recovered and also once you are recovered try to resume yourself slowly towards your activity.
  • If you are not experiencing any intense pain than you can just follow a proper diet and rest otherwise you have to consult your doctor for conventional medications
In the end, keep your self-fit and keep running
